Fuori Salone, also known as Fuorisalone, is an event that takes place every year in the Lombard metropolis, coinciding with the Salone del Mobile, with which he defines Milano Design Week (or simply Design Week) or Milan Design Week. Together with the Salone del Mobile, it is the most important event in the world that concerns the industrial design sector, in particular the furniture sector.
Fuorisalone is not a trade fair event, it is therefore not organized by any organization and is not managed by any central institutional body, it was in fact born spontaneously in the early eighties, by companies operating in the field of furniture and industrial design, even today the individual promoters organize themselves to create a large collective event that is concentrated during the month of April, coinciding with the International Furniture Fair in Milan. Despite this, the communication and promotion of the event has been taken on board by various organizations and companies operating in the sector: among these, the magazine Interni which, in addition to having created the logo and filed another logo, the words "Milano capitale del design", also created in 1991 the first guide to all events of the event: it was with this initiative that Fuorisalone was officially established.
Over time the event has become international and has started to attract thousands of visitors from all over the world, the project has expanded to international sponsors and companies and has become a creative showcase for both emerging and established design and architecture studios. Although the Fuori Salone is a series of related events born in relation to the Salone del Mobile, over time it has been able to gain its own importance, even affecting the latter in recent years. In 2009, a large furniture company, the Poltrona Frau group (owner of the Cassina, Cappellini, Alias, Thonet and Gufram brands) decided to concentrate its exhibitions exclusively on the Fuori Salone, not taking part in the Salone del Mobile of that year.
